Instrumentation

Instrumentation is available to all researchers at ASU, with priority assigned to grant participants. The Inova 500 to be used to perform NMR studies that cannot be adequately completed on the 300 or 400 MHz instruments. You can view the online instrument schedules, but contact the facility personnel to schedule time.
Use of the NMR instruments By Faculty and Students at ASU
ASU Researchers are charged fees for the use of the instrumentation in the NMR facility. These fees pay all costs of operation, including cryogens, software, supplies and repairs. In order to use the NMR instruments, you must have an open requisition and account number.
At present, there are no charges for use of standalone workstations. However, the Center for the Study of Early Events in Photosynthesis, Prof. A. Bieber, Prof. D. Gust, Prof. G. Pettit, Prof. E. Skibo and the Department have all made substantial contributions to provide these capabilities. Priority on the workstations reflects these contributions to this capability.
Use by other academic institutions, non-profit research, and commercial entities
The ASU NMR Facility does not provide strictly commercial analytical services for NMR and FT-IR analysis. If you are in need of such support, we can refer you to these services. However, we support use by external academic and non-profit research institutions. We also encourage industrial use of strategic importance to ASU, the Phoenix Metropolitan area and Arizona. We can facilitate and foster the development of collaborative research efforts between ASU, industry and commercial enterprises, and we can provide service work to industry and additionaly provide Intellectual Property protection, consultation, and research support services, with appropriate interaction through our technology transfer partner AzTe (Arizona Science and Technology Enterprises).
2006 Charges and Acknowledgements
Major instrumentation in the NMR facility was purchased by ASU, or through competitive proposals to NSF and DOE. Generous matching support was provided by the University. Walkup instruments are charged per sample and are allowed up to 1 hr per sample. Research instruments have a straight hourly charge, with a minimum charge of 1 hr. Grant Planning: We expect to raise internal rates $1/hr/yr over the next 3 years as we move to increase partial recovery of salaries within the facility. Similarly, we expect to double the charges for external use over the same three year period.
